Jul 14, 2011 - Speaking only for myself, reading and re-reading it over the years, I find myself not so fascinated by the “Inferno” anymore, but constantly captured by the “Purgatorio” and finding new depths in the “Paradiso.” I've never shed a tear for any of the damned in Hell, but Purgatory has me in floods . If you're looking for a really fine translation without the graduate student's exhaustive notes like the ones in Hollander, pick up the recently published Anthony Esolen translation. As you know, I think there are truths that are true .. I've been listening to Anthony Esolen's translation read aloud recently and really like it. Colorado for a season about 10 years ago! Jan 8, 2014 - Or rather, it puts (for me) a somewhat new way of thinking about a familiar question: is truth objective or subjective? Does that change how we should read it?
